The Churchyard of  St. James Church,  Beercrocombe

St James, seen here with a rare covering of snow, is a wonderful  example of a peaceful English country churchyard.

 The Churchyard is actively managed to be a place of respect for the dead, an area of peace and tranquility for visitors, and a haven for wildlife with a wealth of wild flowers through much of the year.

Many generations of Beercrocombe residents have been laid to rest here, the oldest tomb is a box tomb near the gate in memory of Henrie Morley and other members of his family, dated 1635.

At the beginning of the year snowdrops carpet the churchyard, followed in early spring by primroses, cowslips, violets and many other wild flowers         To encourage wildlife an owl box was built in one of the trees.   In 2001 a yew tree was planted to mark the opening of the third Christian Millennium .
